Radomiak close to record deal for Ronaldo Lumungo

Radomiak Radom are closing in on a club-record signing, with Ronaldo Lumungo set to arrive from Portuguese side Pacos Ferreira. According to Szymon Janczyk of Weszło, the deal is in its final stages and would give the Ekstraklasa a player profile it has not previously had in this form: a current international from Sao Tome and Principe.

Radomiak return to a familiar market

Radomiak have regularly looked to Portugal for recruitment and this move fits that pattern. Lumungo spent last season in Portugal’s second tier with Pacos Ferreira, where he was a regular starter on the wing.

The 25-year-old scored five goals and provided five assists across 33 appearances. Although Pacos Ferreira endured a difficult campaign and dropped into the third tier, that has not deterred Radomiak, who appear convinced by the player’s individual output and potential fit.

There is recent precedent for that thinking in Radom. The club previously signed Capita Capemba from the Portuguese second division, and he went on to make a strong impression. Radomiak will hope Lumungo can follow a similar path.

A notable first for the league

Lumungo’s arrival would also carry wider significance beyond Radomiak’s squad planning. He is a 17-cap international for Sao Tome and Principe, a national team not previously represented in the Ekstraklasa by a current international during their time in the league.

The distinction matters. Sport.pl notes that Nuno Malheiro, who played for Zagłębie Sosnowiec in the 2018/19 season, later represented Sao Tome and Principe. However, while he was playing in Poland, he held only Portuguese citizenship. Lumungo would therefore mark a genuine first in terms of an active representative of that country appearing in the Ekstraklasa.

Sao Tome and Principe, a small island nation in the Gulf of Guinea off the west coast of Africa, has a population of around 245,000. Lumungo is described in the source material as a Saotomean player, adding a fresh international dimension to Radomiak’s recruitment.

International pedigree and transfer details

Lumungo has scored three goals for his national team. Among them was the winner in a World Cup 2026 qualifier against Malawi, a result that carried added significance as Sao Tome and Principe’s first qualifying victory since 2015.

The financial terms underline how highly Radomiak rate the winger. The Polish club are expected to pay 250,000 euros, with a further 50,000 euros possible in bonuses, plus a percentage of any future sale. That would make the transfer a record outlay for the club.

According to the report, Lumungo is already in Radom and only the final details remain to be settled. If completed, the move would represent both a statement of intent from Radomiak and another example of the club’s willingness to search creatively in the Portuguese market.

What it could mean for Radomiak

Radomiak have already claimed their first home win of the season, beating Wieczysta Kraków 2-1, and next face GKS Katowice away on Sunday 2 August at 20:15. Whether Lumungo is available immediately remains unclear, but the expected signing points to a club trying to add pace, output and international experience to its attacking options.
