Card stats for today's matches
CardsMatches with the most or the fewest cards in both teams' recent matches.
How many cards are shown in an average match?
In Europe's top leagues referees show 3.5–5 yellow cards per match on average, and the differences between leagues are bigger than for goals: La Liga and Serie A see clearly more cards than the Bundesliga or Premier League. A red card appears roughly once every four to five matches.
Bookmakers offer lines on total cards (most often 3.5–5.5), cards per team, booking points (yellow 10, red 25) and a red card in the match. The database shows each team's averages, fouls per game and, most importantly, the referee's profile.
How to use the card analysis
Pick a date and a line and the list shows matches ranked by how often it has been cleared. The ranking combines three sources: both teams' discipline (cards and fouls in recent matches), the referee's average cards this season, and what is at stake in the match. Derbies and relegation battles are clearly rougher.
Match details break cards down by team and half and show how often a given referee has cleared the line. The best signals appear when all three point the same way: two ill-disciplined teams, a strict referee and a high-stakes match.
What drives the number of cards
The referee is the strongest single factor: the gap between the most lenient and the strictest official in the same league reaches two cards per match. That is why card bets are worth considering only once the appointment is announced, usually 1–3 days before kick-off.
Beyond the referee: playing style (high-pressing teams foul more), the stakes, head-to-head history and the phase of the match. Most cards come in the second half, when fatigue and the scoreline raise the temperature. Close matches produce more cards than those settled before the break.
Frequently asked questions
- How are booking points counted?
- Most often a yellow card is 10 points and a red 25; a second yellow leading to a red is usually counted as 35 in total (10 + 25). Rules differ between bookmakers, so check the market rules before betting.
- Do cards for coaches and substitutes count?
- With most bookmakers, no. Only cards shown to players on the pitch during regulation time, including stoppage time, count. Cards for staff and unused substitutes, and those after the final whistle, are usually excluded.
- How do we know who referees the match?
- Federations usually publish referee appointments 1–3 days before the round; the database attaches the referee to the match as soon as the information is available and, in Premium, shows the referee's profile from recent matches. Before the appointment is announced, the signal is based on the teams alone.
- What do you get with a free account, and what with Premium?
- Without an account you see the day's first pick with the full analysis, with a free account three picks a day in every module. Premium opens the day's whole list, the match referee's profile, the filters (halves, H2H, number of matches, leagues), other days and the results history.
