Barcelona names Robert Lewandowski among club legends

Robert Lewandowski has been officially recognised by Barcelona as one of the club’s legends, a notable tribute to the former striker after his time at the Spanish champions came to an end this summer.

Lewandowski, now a Chicago Fire player in MLS, left Barcelona earlier this year but remains a significant figure in the club’s recent history. The Poland captain made 193 appearances for the Catalan side, scoring 120 goals and providing 22 assists during his spell at Camp Nou.

Recognition from Barcelona

The distinction has been confirmed on Barcelona’s official website, where Lewandowski has been added to the club’s list of legends. It is a roll call that reflects the scale of his recognition, placing him in the company of some of the most celebrated players to represent the club.

Among the names listed are Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol, Gary Lineker, Samuel Eto'o, Patrick Kluivert, Michael Laudrup, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Romario, Dani Alves and Neymar. In total, Barcelona’s official legends list includes 110 players.

A decorated Barcelona spell

Lewandowski’s numbers underline why Barcelona have chosen to honour him in this way. Across 193 matches, he delivered a prolific return in front of goal and played a major role in the club’s domestic success.

During his time with Barcelona, Lewandowski won La Liga on three occasions. The Champions League, however, remained out of reach, with the club still waiting to win the competition again after last lifting the trophy in 2015.

Even so, his impact was substantial enough to secure a lasting place in the club’s official historical record. For Barcelona supporters, Lewandowski’s contribution is now formally preserved alongside many of the defining figures of different eras.

Part of a wider historical roll call

Barcelona’s official website also features a separate list of legendary coaches. That group includes Hansi Flick, Xavi, Ronald Koeman, Pep Guardiola, Ernesto Valverde, Luis Enrique, Tito Vilanova, Johan Cruyff, Louis van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard.

There are 61 coaches on that list, illustrating the breadth of the club’s effort to document the figures it considers central to its history. Lewandowski’s inclusion among the players is therefore more than a symbolic gesture; it is an institutional acknowledgement of his place in Barcelona’s story.
