Man City reject Barcelona's £55m bid for Rodri

Manchester City have rejected a fresh £55m bid from Barcelona for Rodri, with the Premier League club maintaining their valuation of the Spain midfielder at above £60m.

Barcelona return with improved offer

Barcelona had already seen an earlier approach, understood to be in the region of £40m, turned away by City last week. After that initial setback, the Spanish club were expected to come back with an improved proposal in the £50m to £60m range.

That revised bid has now arrived, but City do not consider it sufficient. Barcelona are still keen to sign the 30-year-old and are weighing up what to do next, while talks between the clubs continue.

City's stance on Rodri

City are seeking upward of £60m for Rodri, who is in the final year of his current contract. The club's preference this summer has been not to sell the midfielder at all.

Instead, City want to agree a new deal with a player they regard as central to their plans. Sky Sports News has reported that the club do not want to part with Spain's World Cup-winning captain, although their position would change if Rodri were to make it clear that he wants to leave.

Midfield picture could shift further

The Rodri situation is unfolding alongside other significant midfield discussions at the Etihad. City are in advanced and positive talks with Saudi Arabian side Al Qadsiah over the sale of Tijjani Reijnders.

The proposed package is said to be around £51.3m (€60m). Reijnders is highly regarded by Al Qadsiah, who are looking to strengthen in midfield before their first Asian Champions League campaign and ahead of moving into the new Aramco Stadium.

If that deal progresses, City could potentially lose two central midfielders in the same window. At the same time, they are also exploring additions in that area.

Enzo Fernandez and Ayyoub Bouaddi on City's radar

City hold interest in Enzo Fernandez and Ayyoub Bouaddi as they assess possible reinforcements. Chelsea have set City a deadline of Friday 5pm to submit a £120m bid for Enzo, while discussions with Lille over Bouaddi are ongoing.

For now, the immediate focus remains on Rodri and Barcelona's pursuit. The Catalan club remain determined, but City have made clear that a £55m offer does not meet their demands.
