Lech Poznań edge KI Klaksvik after late Agnero goal

Lech Poznań gave themselves a chance to keep their European campaign alive, but the performance against KI Klaksvik did little to ease concerns around the Polish champions. A late goal from Yannick Agnero secured a 1-0 win in the third round of Europa League qualifying, sparing the hosts from what would have felt like another serious embarrassment.

Relief rather than reassurance for Lech

After their exit from Champions League qualifying, Lech came into this tie needing a convincing response. On paper, KI Klaksvik looked like manageable opposition, but the reality was far less comfortable for the home side.

There was even a warning for Lech when the visitors nearly scored directly from a corner in the 68th minute. On that occasion, the crossbar came to the rescue for the Polish side.

That moment underlined the tension inside the stadium. What had begun as a match Lech were expected to control had become a difficult, nervy evening in which the margin for error was shrinking.

Agnero delivers the decisive moment

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 81st minute. Agnero surged forward from inside his own half, got beyond the KI defensive line and found himself through on goal. Jensen then slipped at the crucial moment, leaving the Lech forward with the simple task of finishing into an empty net.

It was the one moment of clarity Lech needed, and ultimately the one that separated the teams. The result gives the Polish champions an advantage heading into the return leg, even if the display itself raised as many questions as it answered.

Advantage Lech, but work still to do

Lech can be satisfied with the outcome, but not with the overall level of their performance. Against opponents from the Faroe Islands, this was expected to be a more authoritative evening. Instead, it became another reminder that the team are still searching for rhythm and conviction after their recent European disappointment.

Still, the most important detail is that Lech take a lead into the away leg. If they protect that advantage, they will secure at least a place in the Conference League. For now, that is enough to keep the campaign alive — even if the manner of the win offered only limited comfort.
