Fredi Bobic defends Rajovic amid Legia scrutiny

Fredi Bobic has publicly backed Mileta Rajovic after the Legia Warsaw forward came under renewed scrutiny over his finishing and the size of the fee paid to bring him to the club.

Criticism grows around Rajovic

Rajovic has become a major talking point among supporters and pundits after a difficult start in front of goal. The debate intensified following Legia’s opening match against Pogoń Szczecin, when two of his efforts were ruled out by VAR and he also failed to convert a clear chance. The discussion did not fade after the win over Zagłębie Lubin, and it follows criticism that had already built up during the previous season.

Bobic explains why Legia still believe

Speaking to WP SportoweFakty, Bobic defended the striker and argued that the picture inside the club is different from the one seen from the outside. The Legia sporting director pointed to Rajovic’s daily work and said that commitment remains clear behind the scenes.

Bobic also highlighted the faith being shown by head coach Marek Papszun. In his view, Rajovic’s continued place in the starting line-up reflects both the player’s mentality and the staff’s belief that his run can turn.

That is a notable stance at a time when frustration around the player has become increasingly visible. Rather than distancing the club from the signing, Bobic chose to make a case for patience.

The €3m fee and the wider transfer picture

Much of the criticism has centred on the €3m Legia paid for Rajovic, a figure that has become a reference point whenever his output is discussed. Bobic, however, played down the significance of that amount in broader football terms.

He acknowledged that the sum was a record for Legia, but argued it should not be viewed as exceptional in the wider market, adding that other Ekstraklasa clubs have gone beyond that level.

Bobic also used the discussion to address Legia’s transfer strategy more generally. He said the club had previously brought in €20m by reducing the squad and made clear that Legia would no longer operate as an “open wallet”. In his assessment, the real spending problem was not one single window but a pattern built over the previous five years, with costs rising without the success to justify them.

Attention turns to Korona Kielce

For now, the spotlight remains on Rajovic and whether he can answer the criticism on the pitch. Legia are due to face Korona Kielce away in the Ekstraklasa, and the striker could again be given the chance from the start.
