Lewandowski praises Barcelona move for Rodri

Robert Lewandowski has given his backing to Barcelona’s summer move for Rodri, describing the midfielder as an experienced addition capable of improving the team at both ends of the pitch.

Lewandowski’s view on Rodri

Speaking to Radio Marca during an event organised by Hot Wheels, Lewandowski said Rodri brings qualities Barcelona need as they look to build on an encouraging start to the new Spanish league season.

Lewandowski said Rodri understands what a team requires, can help drive play forward and is also able to contribute in a more defensive role. He added that this level of experience is, in his view, something Barcelona have been missing and that Rodri has spent years performing at the highest level, including on the World Cup stage.

The comments were noted by the Catalan newspaper Sport, which framed them as praise from a player with first-hand knowledge of how important experienced figures are inside an elite dressing room.

Barcelona’s investment and early use of Rodri

Barcelona paid 60 million euros to sign Rodri from Manchester City, completing one of the club’s standout deals of the summer window. For a long period he had also been linked with Real Madrid, but ultimately chose Barcelona.

After arriving, Rodri said it had been his dream to join the club and made clear that his ambition was to compete for every trophy with his new team-mates.

Barcelona have opened the new league campaign with three wins, beating Elche CF, Athletic and Rayo Vallecano. Rodri came off the bench in the matches against Athletic and Rayo, offering an early glimpse of how he may be integrated into the squad.

Lewandowski reflects on his own departure

In the same interview, Lewandowski also spoke about his own exit from Barcelona. He said he is not an especially emotional person, but stressed that he remains ready to support the club and his former team-mates.

Lewandowski described his time at Barcelona as four beautiful years and said there comes a point when a player has to take a new step. He added that he is happy, while also acknowledging that he is still adapting to a major change in moving not only away from Europe but also to the United States.

He also expressed hope that he will eventually be able to celebrate Barcelona winning titles, saying the club has moved forward after a difficult beginning and now looks to be taking another step.

Summer changes in attack

Barcelona’s squad has undergone significant change during the transfer window. Alongside Lewandowski, Ferran Torres also left, with Paris Saint-Germain paying 50 million euros for the forward.

To reshape the attack, Barcelona brought in Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for 80 million euros and Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal for 10 million euros. Against that backdrop, Lewandowski’s endorsement of Rodri stands out as a sign of confidence in the club’s wider recruitment drive.
