Lionel Messi moves closer to CD Eldense takeover
Lionel Messi is on the verge of becoming CD Eldense’s new owner after completing the purchase of the Spanish club’s shares, pending final regulatory approval.

Lionel Messi is closing in on becoming the new owner of CD Eldense after completing the purchase of 100 per cent of the Spanish club’s shares. The deal now awaits formal approval from Spain’s Consejo Superior de Deportes before the change of ownership can be fully completed.
Deal reaches final stage
The move follows a preliminary agreement reached last week between Messi’s representatives and current owner Carolina Holguin. Since then, the process has advanced to the point where the full share package has been formally acquired by the Argentine’s side.
That leaves the transaction in its final phase, with the required sign-off from the Consejo Superior de Deportes still outstanding. Once that approval is granted, Messi will officially become the club’s new owner.
Legal doubts did not halt the process
Questions had emerged around the sale in recent days after former owner Pascual Perez sought the seizure of the shares over a debt he valued at around one million euros.
Holguin had insisted that the dispute would not derail the transaction. She maintained that Eldense’s shares had been paid for and said she had the financial means to cover any amount that might eventually be awarded by a court.
Despite that legal backdrop, the operation has continued and has now reached the final administrative stage.
Financial review still ongoing
Alongside the ownership process, a detailed review of Eldense’s economic and financial situation is still under way. That due diligence procedure could continue for several more weeks.
Even so, the ongoing audit has not prevented the purchase itself from moving forward. Instead, it appears to be running in parallel with the final steps needed to complete the takeover.
Messi already engaging with the club
The ownership change comes at a positive moment on the pitch for Eldense. The team recorded its first win of the La Liga Hypermotion season on Sunday, beating Sporting Gijon 1-0 at El Molinon.
Messi appeared to take notice of that result, liking Eldense’s official social media post about the victory. It was a small gesture, but one that underlined his growing connection to the club as the takeover edges closer to formal confirmation.
If the Consejo Superior de Deportes gives its approval, that connection will soon become official, with Messi set to take control of the entire shareholding in Eldense.
