What the basketball Value Bets module shows

For every basketball game with odds we take the main line of each market — game points, each team's points, the handicap and the winner, for the whole game, both halves and every quarter — and price both sides at the median of the bookmakers that quote it. Next to that price stands how often both teams' recent games, or their head-to-head meetings, landed on the pick.

A value bet is a pick whose price is higher than the fair price of that history: if the games landed on it 62% of the time, the fair price is 1.61, and odds of 1.90 sit 18% above it. The list goes from the biggest value down, and every bet opens into the games behind it.

How to read a value bet

Start with the two numbers side by side: the rate the price needs (100 ÷ odds) and the pick's historical rate. The value is the gap between them. Then look at the sample — 25 games of each team say more than 5 — and at the sharp market's own price with its margin removed: when it is below the bookmakers' price, the market agrees the price is generous.

Every percentage here is a frequency from past games, not a promise about the next one. Line-ups, injuries, back-to-backs and a new season's rosters are things the history does not see — which is why season openers built on last season's games are marked and listed after the fresh picks.

Which markets and periods are covered

Game points and team points read both teams' recent games: for a team's points, its own games count what it scored and the opponent's games what the opponent allowed. The whole game and the second half include overtime, as bookmakers settle them; the first half and the quarters never do.

The handicap and the winner read only the teams' meetings, as football's 1X2 does: a record built against other opponents says little about this matchup. Premium opens every day, period, market, window (5 to 30 games) and the head-to-head view; the free tier shows today's three best picks of the whole game.

Frequently asked questions

What is a basketball value bet?
A pick whose bookmakers' price is above the fair price of its history. If a game total went over its line in 62% of the teams' recent games, the fair price is 1.61; odds of 1.90 are 18% above that — those 18% are the value.
Where do the odds come from?
From the bookmakers that price the game's main line: we take the median of their prices for the selection. The sharp market's own price, with its margin removed, is shown separately as a second opinion and never as the price itself.
Does a positive value mean the bet will win?
No. The value says the price is generous compared with how often similar past games landed on the pick — a statistic, not a certainty. A single game can go either way; value only matters over many bets.
Why do the handicap and the winner use only head-to-head games?
Because a team's record against everyone it played says little about how it fares against this opponent — a win over a weak side counts like a win over a strong one. The meetings of these two teams are the closest history there is, as with football's 1X2.
