Raphinha leads Barcelona rout as PSG and Stuttgart win

Raphinha responded in the best possible way to his omission from the Ballon d’Or shortlist, scoring twice as Barcelona swept aside Feyenoord 5-1 in the Champions League. On a wet night at Camp Nou, Hansi Flick’s side delivered an attacking display that underlined their strong early-season form.

Raphinha sets the tone for Barcelona

The Brazilian forward wasted little time making his mark, finishing smartly in the third minute to put Barcelona in control. He struck again shortly before the hour, continuing a prolific start to the campaign that has now brought him eight goals in six matches.

Barcelona’s attacking depth was also on show. Karim Adeyemi, a summer arrival, added a standout finish, while Lamine Yamal found the net from a free-kick that travelled through a gap in the Feyenoord wall. Gabriel Jesus, another recent signing, made an immediate impact by scoring only two minutes after coming off the bench to register his first goal for the club.

For Feyenoord and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, it was a difficult return to Barcelona, although Sem Steijn did at least provide the travelling support with a late goal.

Flick pleased by Barcelona’s collective display

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick focused on the team performance after the win, praising the cohesion and authority his side showed throughout the contest.

“The most important thing is we are playing like a team, like one unit,” Flick said. “We controlled the game, we are dominant and this is fantastic to see. This is our style and how we want to play.”

That assessment reflected the balance in Barcelona’s performance. While Raphinha’s finishing took the headlines, the broader display suggested a side increasingly comfortable with Flick’s demands, both in possession and in the way they imposed themselves on the game.

PSG begin title bid in style

Paris Saint-Germain also made a powerful start, beating Slovan Bratislava 6-1 at the Parc des Princes as they began their attempt to win a third straight Champions League title.

Ousmane Dembélé, last year’s Ballon d’Or winner, was central to the victory and had already scored twice by the middle of the first half. He then created the opening for Ferran Torres to make it 3-0 before the break.

Torres, signed from Barcelona in the close season, took over after the restart and completed his hat-trick before the hour mark. Slovan Bratislava did manage a reply through Suleiman Camara, but Fabián Ruiz added another to complete an emphatic PSG win.

Demirovic hat-trick lifts Stuttgart

Elsewhere, Ermedin Demirovic was the decisive figure as Stuttgart beat Viking Stavanger 3-1. The forward scored a first-half hat-trick in a devastating 12-minute spell.

Demirovic opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a touch at the near post, but Viking Stavanger — playing in the league phase of the Champions League for the first time — responded quickly. Zlatko Tripic levelled two minutes later after a swift counter-attack.

Stuttgart, however, regained control through Demirovic’s burst of finishing, ensuring the German side emerged with a convincing victory on a busy night across the competition.
